Celebrating the less celebrated Nigeria soldiers, Speech by OLOHUNGBEBE

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration takes place in Nigeria every 15th of January. But we are gathered here today to show the gallant men of the military support and appreciate their sacrifice as it should be done every day.

The patriotic roles of our brave officers in the Service in fighting insurgency and other security threats is unquantifiable. The Department of Mass Communication and the entire staff of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin commend them, including those who paid the supreme price in the course of serving the nation.

What we gather here to do today is historic. It is arguably the first of its kind by any institution in Kwara. This rally will be the first in the series of efforts in support of our military in the state. We believe that Security belongs to everyone. Not just the agencies. Not the Government. Not the elected office holders alone. But all of us. We make their task easier if we support them as a people. It is advised that citizens, especially students and young people, help the military with credible intelligence for them to be able to protect us better. It is also hoped that today inspires everyone to care, love and respect more the officers and their families as an act of patriotic service to the country. In other words, we must all see ourselves as part of the security architecture.

Again, we commend Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for all he has been doing to secure the state. We charge the government at all levels to provide necessary fighting equipment and stable relief for the families of the deceased, to encourage the military in their efforts to secure the state and nation.

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to lead the cavalry of gratitude to the military for their mercurial role curtailing cultism and other insecurity threats on our campus. Due to their courage and patriotism, our institution has become more peaceful and safe for imparting knowledge and values.

Dear Nigerian military, today as always, we honour you, we remember your service, and we will continue to do that, in the name of God and service to the fatherland! God bless Kwara State Polytechnic, God bless Kwara State, God bless Nigeria!
