The Kwara State Polytechnic librarian , Dr.  Shuaib Agboola on Tuesday said lack of people with librarianship background is one of the many problem that is facing a he school library.

Dr. Agboola, in an interview with our reporter, Shifau Olanrewaju, said most of their staff in the library presently are registry staff and they don’t really have more staff in that have libraryskills in which it is a major problem they are facing and according to him has been discussed with Principal officers of the Polytechnic

He furthered that the should get at least people with librarianship training that they can deploy to the library so they can work in each and every units that they are having poor staffing.

When asked about his plan in building a better and advanced level library, the newly appointed Chief Librarian said that his vision for the libary is to create a virtual libary environments so that they can reach out to all the users, adding that one of the major problem facing academic library is lack of physical space because it can not accommodate all users that library is meant to serve.

He added that they are going to leverage on Information Communication Technology (ICT) which will cut across 3 different parameters of Internet Technology, Computer Technology and Telecommunication to ensure that they create a virtual library environment so that they can reach out to their users wherever they may be, adding that it will not be necessary for them to come to the library physically before they can access what the library has.

When asked about their challenges from the Polytechnic students, Dr. Agboola said they have been recording low patronage of the students saying that majority of them now depends on the Internet for finding solutions to the information they needed.

He therefore advised the students not to rely too much on the new media, adding that they will be ready to ready to support them in anything they need, cater for them and provide unlimited information access to them in any area they may require.

It can be recalled that Dr. Shuaib Agboola was appointed four month ago following the retirement of the former Librarian, Mrs Bisilola Akangbe.
