Open defecation: an environmental problem seeking attention in kwarapoly
By OGAR Jennifer abidemi
Kwara state polytechnic has been experiencing harmful environmental problems such as open defecation. This problem is majorly caused by the lack of provision of facilities such as “ TOILET “ by the school management. This left the students and staff of the school with no choice but to engage in open defecation.
The resident around the school and the villagers also engage in this activity because most of their houses do not have the necessary facilities needed.
This engagement has caused nothing but more serious harm than good to the institution and the resident. The act of open defecation has caused the spread of diseases such as cholera, and typhoid in the environment of the polytechnic. Proper care and solution should be taken to put an end to this harmful act.
In fixing this problem, the government must find ways to encourage the populace into building toilets In their homes and a speculated action against defaulters.
Also, the school management should orientate the students and the residents on the impact of their actions on their health, letting them know the likely diseases they could get from open defecation.
