The University of Ilorin ,Kwara State is one of the varsities in the country affected by the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU).
According to report The community traders and motorists rely strongly on the presence of students on campus for patronage, as students also contribute to a large percentage of the population of the community.
However, these motorists and traders have been experiencing low patronage in business activities since the commencement of the strike.
Speaking on the impact of the strike, Mrs blessing, who sells Rice, Beans, and other foods at Tipper Garage Market describes how the industrial action has affected her business.
Mrs blessing joy said that The impact of the ASUU strike has really been bad for her because currently there's no sales, students are not around and they are the major customers we have around to patronize our business.
She further compared the sales to when the students were in school the sale is 100 percent compared to the present movement when the student are on strike which is 25 percent of sale.
However, a Motorist mr Yemi Edo explains the difficulty faced as a result of the industrial action, emphasizing that Business activities have not been the same since the strike,As at 3:00 pm if students are around he could have thirteen turns by this time but now He is struggling to get a complete load for second turn.
Yemi further plead to the Federal Government and ASUU,to call off the strike because this is where majority feeds from,Although the students are the first victim of the strike, the industrial action has more impact on the lives of Nigerians than the lack of academic activities in public varsities.
