TRADERS LAMENT OVER INCREASE IN FOOD ITEMS.

Traders in Ilorin metropolis on Monday lamented over the increase in prices of food in the market which according to the recent Consumer Price Index report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics have risen by 11.4% from August 2021 to August 2022.
It was gathered that nearly every food item is now more expensive, ranging from bread, which was 16.2% more expensive in September than a year ago; the price of eggs has increased 39.8% than the previous year, and some other food items.
In an interview conducted at Kulende market ilorin with one of the traders, Mrs jummai Muhammad said that the high cost of food items has reduce the capacity of goods they purchased, saying that the amount used to buy 5 bags of rice is now used to purchase only 3 bags.
She furthered that among the solution to this is to keep faith in God to forgive us from our sins and touch the heart of the people trying to sabotage the security of the country.
According to the report gathered, this has also reduce the customers buying ability of some food items like beans, rice, tomatoes, semovita and some other food stuff.
This current situation has also affected the purchasing capacity of traders in the market.
The federal government of Nigeria is hereby called upon by the traders to reduce the tax on imported food items, restructure the security architect of the country and also lift ban on some imported goods into the country so as to complements the ones produced in the country itself.
