VILLAGERS IN KWARA STATE POLYTECHNIC WARN INSTITUTION OVER LAND ENCROACHMENT
By: Seyi Emmanuel
The Villagers in Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin has alleged the institution of crossing its land boundaries in the recent building constructions it embarked on.
This was disclosed during an interview session with the village head; Mr. Akewusola Rasheed and other elders in the village as they object the purported act.
They assert that the chronicle of the land dispute is traceable to a request for two classrooms capacity, attributed to the IBAS building in the institution in 1957. “ ….when they came to us many years ago we accepted them with joy and they requested for a space not more than two classrooms capacity. we allow them because of the claims and promises they made which none has been fulfil yet . The two-class capacity has turn to what you are seeing…...”
Akewusola affirms that the establishment of the state institution on their land falls on unfulfilled promises, patriotism to Kwara State Government and the prospect for rapid development in their area. He divulges that the land dispute has been under a judicial proceeding since decades and the Federal high court situated in Ilorin has order the institution to stop farther acquisition of their boundaries. “ … We have taken this case to court and judged that there should be no more encroachment through-out the trial…”
The villagers however, call on the management of Kwara State Polytechnic to halt the successive encroachment of their inheritance and abide by the court directives.
