The community need care development initiative (CONCED) CEO, Mrs. Margaret Atinuke Erinle has said in a three-day workshop organized for women in Kwara state tagged “women must talk, women must lead ,held at E-phoenix hotel Ilorin, Kwara state from 5th - 7th October, 2022 that women’s voices are not heard or listen to and are also underrepresented among the policy makers in the state.

In her opening remark, she said It is a general belief that women participation in politics and decision making level is at the base and women are underrepresented in various phases of political process both at National, State and Local Government levels.

It was reported that The high level of inequality against women, on their potential role and participation in politics for so many years, prompted the curiosity to find out the extent of women participation in inclusive politics; and if they do, to what extent and level, what they did wrong that constantly give them setback in political game of the nation.

In her speech she said that without any doubt, the Nigerian women who make up approximately 50% of the nation’s population are the most active in the political process. From voter registration, campaigns and even the voting, they actively participate. It is however sad to note that despite their active participation in the political process, only a few women have ever aspired for, or won seats for elective positions in the recent political dispensation. This scenario plays out in all states in Nigeria, Kwara inclusive therefore creating an impression that governance is exclusively reserved for men

The workshop which is said to create awareness, encourage and motivate our women to take up their political role and responsibilities lasted for three hours. It was also said to be funded and sponsored by Global Affairs Canada in collaboration with Actionaid Nigeria and Global Hope for Women Children Foundation (GLOHWOC), Kwara state. Part of the prominent people present at the occasion was the former Member Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Nimota, and Mrs. Christy Abayomi, GLOHWOC CEO, Miss Angela Okoye and many others.
