BREAKING: NIGERIANS TO START PAYING 7.5% TAX FOR USING FACEBOOK

     Facebook on Thursday announced in a statement that Nigerians will pay 7.5 per cent value-added tax (VAT) for advert placements ad from January 1, 2022. The charge will apply to adverts running on Facebook for business or personal purposes. According to the statement, “Due to implementation of a value-added tax (VAT) in Nigeria, Facebook is required to charge VAT on the sale of ads to advertisers, regardless of whether you’re buying ads for business or personal purposes. “All advertisers with a business country of Nigeria will be charged an additional 7.5% VAT on advertising services purchased beginning 1 January 2022. “If you’re registered for VAT and provide your VAT ID, your VAT ID will show up on your ads receipts. “In the event that you’re entitled to recover the VAT, this may help you recover any VAT you paid to the Nigerian tax authorities if you are a VAT registered business in Nigeria.” Facebook which recently changed its name to META is the parent company of...

 Two Feared Dead In UNILORIN Autocrash TWO PEOPLE HAVE BEEN REPORTED DEAD IN AN ACCIDENT THAT OCCURED ALONG THE UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN (UNILORIN) ROAD. Gatekeepers News reports that No fewer than two people have been reported dead and several injured in a motor accident along the University of Ilorin, Unilorin road.   An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said, “A private car (alleged to be overspeeding) hit a korope.” “Some of the passengers suffered broken bones and fractures, Terrible injuries.” The accident was said to have occurred along the Veterinary Medicine/Quarters Bustop and the Unilorin dam. The driver of the Korope and a woman in the vehicle have been reported dead.

 EDUCATION  ASUU To FG: You Will Hear From Us Within 24 Hours Following the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum on Sunday handed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to the Federal Government to implement its demands, the lecturers appear set for another round of strike action if nothing is done urgently to forestall this. National President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, said the Federal Government would hear from the Union in the next 24 hours the next line of action. In his message, consultations were already with the various branches for a final position to be made known to the public soon. Osodeke disclosed that the meeting of the principal officers of the Union was held on Sunday resolved to proceed on consultation with branches, adding that the consultation would be through within the next one day after which the union would come out with its position. UNFORTUNATE CAR ACCIDENT IN UNIILORIN

STUDENTS' UNION 2020/2021 ACADEMIC SESSION UNFORTUNATE CAR ACCIDENT ON CAMPUS We express our sympathy about the car accident that happened after the school dam. The unfortunate incident was alleged to have happened as a result of overspeeding of a private car which in turn hit a korope shuttle bus. The disastrous occurrence which happened around 9pm yesterday evening claimed some lives (with the drivers of both vehicles inclusive). We deeply commiserate with the families of the deceased persons and pray that God grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses. Also, we wish the injured victims quick recovery as they receive treatment at the hospital.  Students should however note that academic activities are suspended for today. KWASU Expel 87 Students, 6,620 To Graduate.

 Kwara State Universityhas expelled no fewer than eighty seven (87) students were over varying degrees of offenses. This much was disclosed by the Institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN), during a press briefing heralding the commencement of activities of the combined 8th and 9th convocation ceremony of the Institution. Akanbi while giving statistics of convoking students, said 87 Students were expelled, while 6,620 graduands in the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 Academic calendar. He said “Kwara State University has zero tolerance for indiscipline and misconduct, all cases of indiscipline were investigated and appropriate punitive measures are taken against students found guilty of such offence. The students were involved in examination malpractice, drug related offences, internet fraud, robbery, among other antisocial behaviors. KWASU Sacks Lecturer for sexually harassing a student

Kwara State University, Malete, has dismissed a member of its academic staff, Pelumi Adewale, over the alleged sexual harassment of a student, Tosin Adegunsoye of the Department of Pure and Applied Sciences of the school. KWASU Vice-Chancellor, Mustapha Akanbi, made the revelation in Ilorin on Monday, while addressing a news conference to herald the eighth and ninth convocation ceremonies of the institution. Akanbi said that Adewale had ceased to be a staff the school for bringing the institution into disrepute. “The security agency has taken up the case and it is in court already, but I am informing you officially that the man is now an ex-staff member of the institution. He is a disgrace to our great institution and we won’t condone such acts,” the VC said. Meanwhile, it was was reported that Adewale was on September 11 arraigned before a magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, over an accusation of sexual harassment.  …as NABTEB Act amendment bill passes second reading By Levinus Nwabughiogu-Abuja A bill seeking a perpetual end to the dichotomy between the university degrees of Bachelor’s of Arts/Science, BA/BSc and the Higher National Diplomas, HNDs awarded by polytechnics have been passed into law in the House of Representatives. Titled “A Bill for an Act to Abolish and Prohibit Dichotomy and Discrimination between First Degree and Higher National Diploma in the Same Profession/Field for the Purpose of Employment; and for Related Matters”, the bill was read for the third time which was the final stage of the law-making process at Tuesday plenary. The next stage would be concurrence with the Senate before it will be transmitted to the Presidency for the presidential assent. The bill stipulates some punitive measures against any form of discrimination against holders of HND. The Implication of the piece of legislation is that the two certificates are now at par with each other
